Components and Functions of Lithium Thionyl Chloride Battery: A Terminology Introduction

Dec 13, 2024|

1. Positive electrode:

- It is generally expressed as "Positive electrode" or "Cathode". In a lithium thionyl chloride battery, the positive electrode material mainly reacts with carbon and thionyl chloride (SOCl₂).

2. Negative electrode:

- It can be expressed as "Negative electrode" or "Anode". The negative electrode of a lithium thionyl chloride battery is usually metallic lithium (Li).

3. Electrolyte:

- The English term is "Electrolyte". The electrolyte of a lithium thionyl chloride battery is an organic solvent containing a lithium salt, such as a thionyl chloride solution with dissolved LiAlCl₄.

4. Separator:

- It is represented by "Separator". The separator functions to separate the positive and negative electrodes in a battery, prevent short circuits, and allow ions to pass through.
